🍝What are air fryer pasta chips?
Whilst these aren't something new, it has been made popular again via Tiktok.
Air fryer pasta chips are first boiled then drained, seasoned, lightly oiled and then air fried until crispy and crunchy.
This recipe is vegan and gluten-free. You can however make yours with any flavors you like.
😋Why you’ll love this recipe
- Inexpensive using pantry ingredients
- Simple and easy recipe
- Perfect for whenever you’re stuck on a snack, dip these into your favorite sauce
- Super crunchy you can hear it at the end of the video
- This recipe is vegan and made using gluten-free pasta - however, you can use a wheat variety
🥘Ingredients
Notes on some of the ingredients, the full list of ingredients and their measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
Pasta - select your favorite bite-sized variety. I’ve cooked with many and so far the shell has been my favorite. I always opt for gluten-free (affiliate link) with no egg.
Oil - I have used avocado oil (affiliate link) to air fry with, you can choose your preferred oil.
Seasoning - at the basic level, salt needs to be added to your taste, then build it up from there.
I like to add herbs too using my zaatar recipe.
Nutritional Yeast (affiliate link) - gives a wonderful cheese flavor. This is a non-dairy product, perfect for vegans.
🔪Step-By-Step Guide
Step 1 - Cook pasta as per instructions, then place into a colander and run cold water through it.
Step 2 - In a bowl, toss through the olive oil and all other ingredients.
Step 3 - Place into the air fryer (affiliate link) and fry on high for 16-18 minutes, stir halfway through (to ensure even air frying). Serve warm or cold.
✔️Variations
Make a sweet version. I have done this using a mixture of tahini and molasses and then once air fried, cinnamon was sprinkled through.
Deep-fried - Simply follow steps 1 & 2 and then place into hot oil and fry until golden.
Oven baked- Simply follow steps 1 & 2 and then place them into the oven at 200C (400F) and bake until golden. Place individually on a single layer onto a tray.
Seasoning -the beauty about this recipe is that you can select your favorite seasoning - I have had someone say they will try these with rosemary.
⭐Pro Tips
Always cook pasta al-dante, which is generally 1 minute less than per packet instructions, the result is perfect and not mushy.
As air fryers differ, initially cook for 12 minutes and check to see how fried they are, then determine how many more minutes they may need.
This air fryer (affiliate link) is similar to the one I have at home (with a tray, you might need to take out some of the cooked pieces and allow others to cook a little longer)
Vegan pasta - make certain you purchase a packet that is vegan friendly.
Serving suggestion - dip these into your favorite dip - think baba ghanouj, hummus, fry sauce or even vegan bbq ranch dressing.
❓FAQ
No, nothing like eating raw pasta which has a chewy hard consistency. These are super crunchy like eating thick seasoned chips.
Select bite-sized pasta; bow-tie, spiral, penne or shells, as these will give you individual chips. Avoid any long varieties such as fettuccini, spaghetti, linguine etcetera.
Upon cooking pasta per packet instructions and then draining them. Add flavorings and oil as indicated by the recipe and place them into the air fryer for 16-18 minutes on high or until crunchy.

I love these vegan pasta chips! My two kids love eating these, which is better than any prepacked chips IMO. We made them both savory and sweet as per your Tik Tok. The kids think the sweet ones taste like churros.
