🍫 Ingredients Notes

almond meal, oats, cacao powder, cocoa nibs, desiccated coconut, vanilla extract and maple syrup in bowls

Notes on some of the ingredients, the full list of ingredients and their measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

Almond meal is made up of 100% raw almonds which have been ground up with their peel. This is the main ingredient, which can easily be purchased at your local health food store, supermarket or online (affiliate link).

Desiccated coconut is dried coconut that has been cut into small pieces, it is not the same as shredded coconut, however, shredded coconut can be used.

Rolled oats or plain quick oats are added as one of the filler components. Oats are a fabulous all natural ingredient that will help keep you feeling full for longer amd boast a nice amount of protein.

If you are on a gluten free diet, ensure you read the labels, as most oats are handled in facilities that process gluten products. Check for certified gluten free oats.

Maple syrup should be 100% maple syrup, this natural sweetener helps to bind the ingredients of these bliss balls without dates and give them some moisture.

Raw cacao powder is 100% cacao without any added ingredients, there should be no added sugars. This ingredient on it’s own is bitter (it is unsweetened cocoa powder), but once combined with maple syrup is so chocolatey. You can find this in your health food store, section or online (affiliate link).

Cocoa nibs adds some crunch and is what raw cocao powder is made of. This can be purchased here (affiliate link) or from your local health food shop.

Vanilla extract is used to enhance the flavoring.

🥄 How to Make Chocolate Bliss Balls

Step 1 - In a food processor, add all the ingredients and process until it has come together. You will need to scrap the sides a couple of times to ensure all of the ingredients are processed.

Step 2 - Spoon out some of the mixture and use your hands to create a bite sized ball (about 3cm / over an inch in diameter). Place bliss balls in the fridge in an airtight container. Store for a couple of weeks.

🌟 Pro Tips

You will need to scrap the sides of the food processor a couple of times to ensure that all the ingredients are blended through.

Once these chocolate balls are stored in the fridge, they will harden a little and be less soft.

🥄Variations

Make these minty, by adding a of drop of mint extract. The combination of chocolate, coconut and mint is wonderful.

Or make these into choc orange balls by adding a drop of orange extract.

Some coating ideas include desiccated/shredded coconut, various crushed nuts, sesame seeds (this adds some lovely crunch), freeze dried raspberries, matcha powder or plain cacao (bitter flavor).

❓FAQ

Can I make chocolate bliss balls without a food processor?

Yes, absolutely. Use a large mixing bowl and add all the dry ingredients first, and combine until evenly mixed. Then add the wet ingredients using either your hands or a fork to mix together until everything is again evenly combined. Then roll them into bite-sized balls. It would be best to use quick oats rather than rolled oat.

Jumped onto these as soon as you sent them in email Janelle. These are the best chocolate bliss balls ever! I normally buy some from the shops, but find them either too dry or too oily. You're a life saver. I also want to say that I like the crunchiness from the cocoa nibs.
