A plant-based protein-filled snack or topper for salads, soups or bowls. Spiced crispy chickpeas are irresistibly moreish. Tossed in spices and roasted until golden perfection.
The great thing about crispy chickpeas is that not only do they make an amazing vegan snack (I love a good bean snack) they are also great to use in place of croutons for soups, and also in salads or nourish bowls.
Ingredients Highlight
The complete list of ingredients with measurements, can be found in the full recipe card below.
To save time, I've opted for canned chickpeas, giving them a thorough rinse and pat-dry before use. Patting dry chickpeas helps to make them crunchy when roasted.
As for the spices, feel free to get creative! I've kept it simple with a blend of cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper, creating a perfect balance of spiciness that's just right.
Other Seasoning Suggestions
- Homemade ranch flavored seasoning
- Cinnamon and maple syrup
- Rosemary, thyme with salt and pepper
- Garlic powder and nutritional yeast
Janelle's Tips
Air fryers differ by make and model. This is the air fryer I use when making the air fryer spiced crispy chickpeas. Adjust your settings accordingly and check in regularly to test the crispness.
Storage
For optimal crispiness, it's best to enjoy these on the same day they're made. As time passes, their crunch diminishes. However, if you plan to store them, they can last for several days in your pantry, provided they're kept in a dry spot. You can even crisp them up by placing them back into the oven or air fryer for a few minutes until they are crispy again.
Before sealing them for storage in an airtight container, ensure the warm crunchy chickpeas have cooled to room temperature to prevent any sogginess caused by condensation.

I haven't tried the recipe yet however please do not recommend that they use the brine off the canned beans. It's loaded with leptins that are responsible for inflammation in the body. This liquid should be discarded and the beans should be rinsed. can liquid or cooking liquid if you're making them from scratch should ever be used.

Air frying really gets the chickpeas extra crispy compared to the oven - or maybe my oven is crap haha

Hi Janelle, could I use dry chickpeas? I have so many and would like to use them up! Thank you
Janelle
Hi Iyah,
You sure can. Just make sure the chickpeas are cooked before using in this recipe. I have made roasted chickpeas several times with them.
You can cook dry chickpeas by either soaking them overnight to hydrate them and then simmer until cooked or you can boil them for longer on the stove directly from dry until cooked. I have used both methods which work well.
Enjoy.
