Radish greens salad features chopped crisp and tender radish leaves tossed with slices of bitey onion in a sour dressing.

I used to find it strange that people found it strange that I loved to munch on radish leaves. I used to get comments like “you can’t eat that!” as if the radish tops were toxic.
I’m so glad that people are catching on to the fact that this “rabbit food” is good enough for humans, boasting loads of nutrition.
This radish greens salad is called fijliyeh in Arabic, which is a play on the word "fijil" meaning radish. It's similar to my roca salad my mom used to make it to serve alongside mujjadara, and for a long while I forgot about it until a lovely PBF reader called Marie reminded me of it.
Key Ingredients
This salad is best made with homegrown radish leaves, as they are the freshest, filled with juicy goodness, and the stems so crisp! You’ll need to chop off the radish bulb and the stem part attached to the bulb.
The stems and leaves will be chopped up and thrown together into a bowl with slices of sweet bitey red onion and a Lebanese dressing for salads, which is made up of fresh lemon juice, olive oil, crushed garlic, cayenne pepper and sumac.
Janelle’s Tips
Fresh radish greens have tiny little pricks on them, don't worry though, once tossed through the dressing, the leaves are no longer prickly.
I find that radish tops to wilt quickly, and can get soggy quickly too, I recommend eating this salad within the same day.
