Published: Nov 20, 2020 · Modified: Aug 5, 2022· By: Janelle Hama

Stuck on vegan roast ideas? Check out this list of 43 vegan roast recipes including sides and sauces to make for a perfect Sunday roast, holiday meal or for any occasion.

These recipes can be used for both lunch and dinner ideas.

This list has been categorized into sections to make it easier to navigate.

What Are Vegan Roasts?

Vegan roasts are based on the traditional English meal; some may know it as “meat and three veg” and are the alternative to a traditional Sunday roast or holiday meal, whereby all the foods are meatless.

There are 4 components to consider when putting together your vegan roast and you can include as many of these to make up your meal.

These are great for lunch, dinner, festive and or Thanksgiving meal;

  • Centerpiece - A vegan roast that is made up of foods such as seitan (pronounced as say•tan) roasts, nut loaves, vegetable wellingtons, or whole pieces of vegetables such as a head of cauliflower as the centerpiece.
  • Vegetables - think of a serving of potatoes and vegetables which can be prepared in any way desired (boiled, steamed, or baked).
  • Accompaniments such as mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and even vegan Yorkshire pudding can be enjoyed.
  • Sauces such as gravy, mint jelly, apple sauce, cranberry sauce, red currant sauce, or any kind that you'd like.

Seitan Vegan Roasts

What is seitan?

Seitan is made out of hydrated gluten (the main protein found in wheat), it is used as a meat substitute by vegans.

Seitan is also referred to as wheat gluten (affiliate link).

The word Seitan is pronounced as “say-tan” and was coined in Japan in 1961. However, wheat gluten dates back to the 6th century in China.

The following seitan vegan roasts recipes are either sliced, shredded or stuffed, they make the most fabulous centerpiece.
