I think it's marvelous that wholesome foods can be delightful and nourishing.

I am trying to maintain good eating habits post-cleansing. As a foodie who loves to snack, even in beverage form, a pineapple slushie is the perfect answer to a hot day.

This refreshing frozen drink cools me down while offering a sweet and fruity treat that is all-natural. It requires only 3-4 ingredients!

Ingredients You’ll Need

frozen pineapple pieces, pineapple juice, ice, maple syrup and vanilla in white bowls

The complete list of ingredients with measurements, can be found in the full recipe card below.

Making a freezing cold slushie is incredibly easy and invigorating. I start by cutting fresh pineapple into small pieces, removing the skin and eyes, and freezing them overnight (watch the video for how I do this). Smaller chunks blend easily and can be used in smoothies too.

Next, I make pineapple juice from the remaining core and some flesh, which can be stored in the fridge for a few days. The juice and frozen chunks are blended with small ice cubes.

To sweeten the frozen blended pineapple, I add maple syrup to taste, and for an extra boost of flavor, I sometimes add a splash of vanilla.

Janelle's Tips

I like keeping frozen pineapple pieces in the freezer, ready to use.

The best blender for slushies is a high-speed one, ideally with a frozen drink setting that combines pulsing and blending.

Stir the slushie just before serving to combine the juice and slush, as slight separation can occur.

Serving in a chilled glass helps keep the slushie cold for longer.

For a more icy, sorbet-like texture, you can add more ice, try adding another half cup. You might also enjoy this easy mango sorbet.

Variations

Rather than vanilla, fresh mint or basil leaves can be used. Only a couple are needed. The green flecks are pretty to look at, just like in these lemonade drinks with mint or basil.

If you like coconut with pineapple, try adding a tablespoon of coconut cream or a couple of drops of coconut extract.

Change up the juice, try using fresh orange juice or coconut water. Speaking of oranges, I love making homemade orangenade.

For a pineapple slush cocktail, simply add a shot of your preferred spirit such as vodka, tequila, or white rum.

Notes

I used fresh pineapple which I chopped into pieces and froze overnight, see the video for how to do this, otherwise store bought pineapple pieces are good to use.
Using smaller ice cubes is ideal for blending into a slush.
