    Vegan Iftar Recipes (32 Ramadan Food Ideas)

    Here's a list of vegan Ramadan food ideas. These iftar recipes are full of fresh veggies that the whole family will enjoy.

    Just a little note about iftar;

    Iftar is the Arabic word for 'breaking of fast' for the evening meal during the month of Ramadan. Although, some people do fast outside of the month of Ramadan, usually to make up for days not completed during the holy month.

    Ramadan is the holy month of fasting. Where Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam.

    Fattoush Salad (My Family's Recipe - الفتوش)
    This fattoush recipe is unchanged from my childhood, passed down from my mother from hers and so forth. Fattoush is Lebanon’s version of a garden salad with sour dressing and toasted pita bread for extra crunch.

    Spiced Vegan Couscous Salad (Maftoul Salad)
    This spiced vegan couscous salad with pine nuts is well seasoned and includes colorful diced vegetables and herbs in a fresh lemon dressing. It can serve as a main dish or side dish.

    Balela Salad (Lebanese Chickpea Salad)
    This balela salad is a Lebanese chickpea salad is cumin chickpeas mixed through fresh tomato, onions, herbs and spices. Can be enjoyed warm or cold, for breakfast, lunch or dinner with your favourite flatbread or part of a mezze.

    Easy Quinoa Taboula Salad (Gluten Free)
    An easy gluten free quinoa taboula salad made with quinoa, freshly chopped parsley, tomato, onion and cucumber in a light dressing. Can easily be adapted to be without oil.

    Vermicelli Rice (Lebanese Rice)
    A staple with every Lebanese family, vermicelli rice (aka Lebanese rice or riz bi sharieh) uses only 3 ingredients and is easy to make. It’s the perfect side to accompany so many foods such as stews, curries, braised vegetables and more. Vegan friendly.

    Hindbeh Bi Zeit (Lebanese Greens)
    Lebanese greens (hindbeh bi zeit) is made with either dandelion, endive or chicory tossed in a sour dressing topped with caramelized onion.

    Baba Ghanouj or Baba Ganoush is a simple and tasty eggplant dip from Lebanon that requires minimal effort. Vegan friendly. Gluten free.

    Loubieh bi zeit traditional Lebanese green beans that are braised with tomato, onion and garlic until tender. Vegan and gluten free.

    🍲Stews

    Bamia (Lebanese Okra Stew)
    This Bamia recipe is a classic Arabic dish from Lebanon made with okra and tomatoes. Preparation is quick and easy. Okra Stew is always served with vermicelli rice.

    Lebanese spinach stew aka sabanekh w riz is hearty, warming, and delicious. Using minimal ingredients and can be made in around 30 minutes. Gluten free and vegan.

    Kousa Mahshi (Lebanese Stuffed Zucchini)
    Kousa mahshi is Lebanese Stuffed Zucchini. This recipe is my Lebanese family’s recipe. Each zucchini (squash) is filled with spiced vegetables, toasted pine nuts and rice cooked in a delicious tomato broth. This is a vegan Lebanese recipe.

    Lebanese moghrabieh (pearl couscous)  is small pearls of wheat pasta with spices, chickpeas and caramelised onions. This Mograbieh is a vegan Lebanese recipe, also suitable for vegetarians, which can be served either in a broth or in a wrap.

    Sfouf Lebanese Turmeric Semolina Cake (Vegan)
    Sfouf is an easy Lebanese semolina cake with turmeric that is a gorgeous bright yellow color. This Lebanese cake is soft, quite tender and slightly crumbly. The semolina contributes to this cake's unique texture, giving it a slightly pleasant graininess. The exterior is crunchy and the interior is moist.

    Some of my other favourite healthy vegan meals to make, that aren't Arabic include, polenta fritas - these are made in the air fryer and can be enjoyed as a side to your main break fast Ramadan meal.

    Damper, this is a 3 ingredients bread from Australia which is perfect for mopping up soup or stews. Use a small amount so you don't get full on bread during iftar.

    Lebanese zaatar, if you're Middle Eastern, you know that this herb blend can be used on almost anything. It's especially nice for ftoor (breaking fast during sunrise).
    An English inspired wholesome meal is vegan shepherds pie, it's full flavoured loaded with veggies and topped with mashed potatoes, this is an amazing iftar meal - go on try something different.
